Nodular graphite cast iron is used for many products
- Filter housing
- ICE brake discs
- Planet carrier
- Rope drums
- Crankshafts
Nodular graphite cast iron has a large elongation with ultimate tensile strength. Additionally characteristics such as corrosion resistance and resistance to thermal shocks and abration resistance can be affected by further alloyage. In comparison to forged and steel casting parts, nodular graphite cast iron convinces with the same extension values towards a twice as high tensile strength.
Nodular graphite cast iron graphite is present in globular structure (photo right). This structure is decisive for the large elongation and the ultimate tensile strength of the material.
